Title
Social Equity Commons Oral History Project
Description
The Social Equity Commons Oral History Project is a years-long effort to document the stories and experiences of residents, working professionals, and public officials from Bladensburg-area neighborhoods.
Oral interviews were recorded of several teen participants in the April 2024 Youth Leadership Academy at Bladensburg Branch. We wanted to understand what our students have been learning to help support their community and what they would like to see.
In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, four English as a Second Language teachers were interviewed in May 2024 for their perspectives on educating the diverse students of the greater Bladensburg community. These ESOL teachers were Paula Amadeo of the International High School at Langley Park, Lilian Chi of William Wirt Middle School, and Monica Wilson and Raymond Feliciano of Bladensburg High School.
Future plans of the oral history project will be to interview additional people from Bladensburg, Cheverly, Colmar Manor, Cottage City, and Edmonston.
